What is the Cornhusker State Games? The Cornhusker State Games is Nebraska's amateur sports festival. The sports offered provide a broad appeal to athletes of all ages and abilities, ranging from highly competitive Olympic sports to those that are more recreational and geared to participation. There's something for everyone!
The Cornhusker State Games, organized in 1985, has become a midsummer tradition attracting thousands of Nebraskans to Lincoln from throughout the state.
The main mission of the Cornhusker State Games is offering good, wholesome family-oriented activities and abundant fun. Beyond that, the organization takes pride that its competition exposes a multitude of Nebraskans to the benefits of physical fitness, well-being and good sportsmanship.
When and where will the 2010 Games be held? June 25-27 in Lincoln, Omaha and surrounding communities.
The Games are usually held on the third week in July, but the Special Olympics is taking place in Lincoln this July, so most competition will be held in June. The Opening Ceremonies and Sportfest is Friday, June 25 and the majority of sports will be held that weekend. For specific sport dates, check out our complete Sport Listing.
Who can compete? All Nebraskans! Athletes must, however, reside in Nebraska for at least 30 days prior to competition and have amateur status in the sport in which they enter.
High school athletes may enter, provided they abide by the rules of the Nebraska School Activities Association. College athletes are eligible under national collegiate rules.
Special Olympics and disabled athletes also have the opportunity to compete in a variety of sports.
How does one enter? We encourage everyone to register online. You can register for a sport by going to our Sport Listing, selecting a sport and following the online registration process. There is also a printable entry form on each sport page which you can fill out and mail or fax to the Cornhusker State Games office.
What all does the entry fee cover? All individual participants will receive an athlete packet, which includes: an Athlete T-shirt, an Athlete Pass to SportFest and the Opening Ceremonies, a copy of the NSC Yearbook and FUN! Participants can have their athlete packets shipped to them ($5 individual, $10 team/doubles) or they can pick up their packets during the designated packet pick-up dates and times.
Are there Awards? Athletes in all competitive events vie for 2-1/2 inch custom cast Cornhusker State Games gold, silver and bronze medals with Olympic-style neck ribbons.
Finishers in some non-competitive sports will receive a commemorative medallion.
THINGS TO REMEMBER
Safety First! Safety of the athletes is of paramount concern to Cornhusker State Games organizers. All efforts will be taken to protect the health of those enjoying the competitions, and rules of safety will be strictly enforced.
Medical personnel at competition sites will be directed by the medical committee and radio communications will be coordinated by amateur radio clubs.
The medical staff has the authority to intervene in the competitions in the interest of safety.
Standards of Sportsmanship It is the philosophy of the Cornhusker State Games that all who take part should do so in the spirit of fair competition and good sportsmanship. It is expected that all participants -- athletes, coaches and fans -- adhere to the principles of good sportsmanship. The Cornhusker State Games Board of Directors reserves the right to deny participation to anyone whom it determines to have violated the principles of good sportsmanship, or for any reason it deems to be in the best interest of the Games.
Disputes Any disputes or protests should be resolved at the event site by competition officials. It is the responsibility of the Sport Director to handle these matters within the framework and rules of the sport.
In extreme cases, appeals or requests for ongoing sanctions may be presented in writing to the President of the Cornhusker State Games Board of Directors for possible mediation. A decision by the Board of Directors or its appointed committee will be final.
Returned Checks There will be a $15 fee for all returned checks.
In the event of a returned check, athletes will not be allowed to participate until the entry fee and returned check fee have been paid in cash or money order.
